'Arthur’s Tooth' by Marc Brown

The picture book 'Arthur’s Tooth' by Marc Brown is based around Arthur’s inability to lose his first tooth. As Arthur and his friends are maturing, they are all losing their baby teeth, however Arthur’s failure to do so results in him becoming harassed and quite distressed. This complication throughout the picture book is portrayed through detailed illustrations that show Arthur talking via speech bubbles. At the end of the book Arthur’s complication is resolved as he loses his first tooth, which brings him a sense of belonging and results in peer harassment to halt. This book could be utilized throughout a junior primary classroom setting as the messages the text covey are ones of acceptance and anti-discrimination. Arthur story was also created into a TV series, which may provide further engagement to children.
