Novel - “Toad away” by Morris Gleitzman
The author of the novel “Toad Away” is the
award winning Morris Gleitzman who has won numerous awards and written a number
of children novels. The book is about a young toad named Limpy who decides to
go on a quest to the Amazon after witnessing his Aunty Pru getting ran over and
squashed by a large truck. He decides to go on this journey to the Amazon with
his sister Charm and cousin Goliath in search of his ancestors with the aim of
asking them how toads and humans can live in peace. Morris Gleitzman writes
this comedic quest style plot in a present tense with an un-intrusive third
person narration. This book is ideal for young children as it is fun and
addictive but can also be used to explore the SOSE topic of sustainability from
reading how humans are impacting the Amazon with machinery.
