The picture book “Incy Wincy Spider” written
by Kate Toms is based on the nursery rhyme and explains the journey that Incy
Wincy Spider takes to overcome his fear of water. The book contains very
colourful and bold illustrations which is why this book would be great for
young children from ages 5 to 8 read. The story starts off by Incy Wincy trying
various methods and strategies to overcome his fear of water. He tries using an
umbrella and then jumping on a trampoline, and he also tries climbing up while
wearing goggles but none of these ideas worked. He eventually comes up with the
bright idea of climbing up a pipe that leads up to the spout. Kate Toms writes
this book with a quest plot and is set in present tense with third person un-intrusive
narration.
