‘Window’ by Jeannie Baker

‘Window’ by Jeannie Baker illustrates the idea of change, displayed by looking through a window. The book is written without words, which allows children to explore the illustrations and somewhat create their own understanding of what is happening throughout the book. Jeannie Baker displays this key idea of change, through a mother and baby looking through a window, into the wilderness. As the baby grows up and develops, things outside the window start to change. For example the wilderness develops into small villages, which soon develop into a city. The illustrations throughout ‘Window’ are a little more complex than most picture books, signifying the book could be interrelated into the primary school English curriculum, assisting students in possibly creating and describing their own photo story.
