The picture book, ‘Look, A Book' by Libby Gleeson, illustrated by Freya Blackwood is a finalist in this year’s book week festival. The book tells the tale of two children who find a book in the rural surrounds of their home town. Freya Blackwood’s images allow the reader to indulge in a world of fantasy as scenes of reality soon turn to scenes of bizarre magic as the children ride on chickens and float on tea cups. However, the story beneath the illustrations basically depicts two children on a journey of imagination. The book would be best utilized in the junior primary or early primary years, as children could create and explore their own fantasies and dreams, which could be expressed through story writing activities.
