'Let’s get a Pup’ by Bob Graham

‘Let’s get a Pup’ by Bob Graham is a picture book based on Kate, a young child who desperately wants a puppy to play with. After days of pressuring her parents to get a puppy, they finally give in and head down to the local rescue centre to adopt an underprivileged dog. Kate soon becomes extremely friendly with one of the dogs in the shelter, before naming it Dave and bringing it home. In conclusion, Grahams style of writing and illustrations throughout the book should appeal to junior primary students, as children of this age often share the same want or need for a pet. Graham’s message put across through the text also supports one of acceptance, in that Kate is giving a rescued dog another chance.
