'Miss Spiders Tea Party' by David Kirk

The picture book 'Miss Spiders Tea Party' by David Kirk, illustrates the story of Miss Spider, a stereotypical scary looking spider that is disliked by other insects. However one day, when an insect is in distress nearby miss spider house, miss spider invites the insect in to have a cup of tea with her. The insect eventually spreads the word that miss spider is rather quite friendly and approachable which leads to a tea party with numerous other insects. The illustrations in the book are very colourful and really catch the eye, the words also rhyme which allows the text to be quite enjoyable. Overall the book conveys a message of ‘one should not judge another by their appearance’; I believe this could be something which is easily implemented into a junior primary lesson assisting children in understanding other cultures.
